Cirl buntings have disappeared from large parts of their range in the UK but are still relatively abundant in South Devon. Paignton Zoo has been working closely with the RSPB to translocate young birds from Devon and rear and release them in a specially selected site in Cornwall.
The programme has been very successful and the potential to achieve a self-sustaining population in Cornwall is very good.
