Adopt a Giraffe

Support The Care Of Giraffes And Help Protect This Beautiful And Unique Species

Your adoption helps us care for our herd of giraffes – Janica, Otilie, Joanna, Eliska, and Florrie – while contributing to global conservation efforts. Rothschild’s giraffes, also known as Baringo Giraffes, are a Near Threatened subspecies facing habitat loss and poaching.

By adopting a giraffe, you will be making a meaningful difference in preserving these magnificent creatures and their habitats.

In addition, you get a selection of exciting benefits as a thank-you for your support.

Why Adopt a Giraffe?

Giraffes are truly remarkable animals. Found in the savannahs, open woodlands, and grasslands of Kenya and Uganda, they play a vital role in their ecosystems by feeding on tall trees and dispersing seeds.

Fun Facts About Giraffes

  • Neck Power: Despite their long necks being around 6 feet long and weighing up to 600 pounds, giraffes have the same number of neck vertebrae as humans – 7.
  • The Word Of The Heard: A group of giraffes is most commonly known as a ‘Tower’.
  • Near Threatened: The International Union for Conservation of Nature classifies giraffes as ‘near threatened’. It is estimated that there are 155,000 giraffes in the wild, which is down 140,000 from 1999.

More Fun Facts About Giraffes

  • A Heavy Heart: The average giraffe’s heart weighs in at about 25 pounds (11.3 kg). It also beats at roughly twice the rate of a human’s at 170 bpm. They need to do this in order to supply blood to the brain up through their long necks.
  • Born Tall: A newly born giraffe will often be as tall as 6 feet.
  • They fight with their necks: When giraffes face off against predators or one another, they will use their incredibly powerful necks like a flail. While it may look silly to us, these attacks can cause severe damage to any would-be attackers.
