Join us for a great networking opportunity at our sister site, Living Coasts Zoo & Aquarium.

Network over drinks and lunch before hearing more about our important work in protecting our wild coasts from our conservation team.

Here in the South West our magnificent Wild Coasts provide enormous benefits to the communities and wildlife that live nearby. Healthy coastal ecosystems provide food, storm protection, clean water, carbon storage and tourism potential.

The UK and many other governments have declared an environment and climate emergency in 2018 and the United Nations has proposed a Decade of Ecological Restoration (2021-2030). Wild Planet Trust will be expanding our coastal conservation work with a particular focus on seagrass in Tor Bay. Seagrass meadows are on one of our most important but underappreciated ecosystems, providing nursery grounds for fish, storing carbon at up to 35 times faster than rainforest, and even filtering harmful pathogens from our bathing waters. Together with our partners and incredible volunteer dive team, we have been monitoring the seagrass beds within the Tor Bay Marine Conservation Zone and trialling eco-friendly mooring systems to prevent damage from anchors. We are also working on cultivation and planting techniques so that we could help manually restore seagrass meadows if needed.

Together with our protection of habitats at Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve, our campaign to ‘turn the tide’ on marine plastics and our new partnership to restore native vegetation on a small island in the Falklands, Wild Planet Trust is committed to ensuring our Wild Coasts remain rich in wildlife and wild places.
