You are invited to take part in a Silent Zoo Visit (where participants are required to make a conscious effort not to make noise during their visit) and a Listening Zoo Visit (where participants will be guided by a researcher to listen to the sounds of the Zoo). The aim is to see if these unconventional visits have any effect on the way that participants think and feel about their zoo experience, and especially the animals.

What's involved?

Paignton Zoo is working with researchers at the University of Exeter and the University of St Andrews on a project called ‘Listening to the Zoo’, which is being funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.

The visit will begin with a welcome and briefing by researchers and then you will be invited to explore the Zoo at your own pace for an hour and a half. Afterwards you are requested to participate in a 40 minute feedback session where you will discuss your visit in a group together with the other participants and the researchers.

The Listening Zoo Visit will begin at 9.00am on Sunday 12th May, There will be a welcome by researchers and then you will take part in an exclusive out of hours guided tour for an hour and a half. Following the tour, you will be requested to participate in a 40 minute feedback session to discuss your visit with the other participants and the researchers.

Your entry to the Zoo will be paid, as will your travel (to the value of £10). Free refreshments will be provided during the feedback session.
