Paignton Zoo go wild for 100th birthday
A special birthday requires a special toast and Bays Brewery have certainly delivered for Paignton Zoo’s 100th birthday with an extra special beer. The guest ale, which is called ‘Wild 100’, is described as a crisp, copper-coloured pale ale roaring with citrus character. This will be the tenth guest ale for Paignton Zoo, and while drinkers raise their glass they will also be raising funds for the zoo with 10p donated per pint sold.
Bays Brewery have been working with Paignton Zoo for many years, creating limited-edition guest ales which have raised over £25,000 for the zoo, and they’re hoping this year will be the best yet.
Katie White, Events and Corporate Relationship Manager said: “We’re delighted to be collaborating with Bays Brewery once again. They have been fantastic supporters of Paignton Zoo over the years and we’re excited to see how much they will raise in 2023.”
This year will go down in Paignton Zoo’s history books as they celebrate 100 years since the gates first opened to the public. It seems only fitting that their centenary is marked with a special ale since their founder Herbert Whitley was the son of a successful brewer. The Greenall Whitley brewery was based in Liverpool, where the family lived before moving to Paignton. Profits from the brewery helped Whitley to establish Paignton Zoo – or Torbay Zoological Park as it was then known.
Wild 100 is now available to purchase and all money raised will support the vital conservation work of Wild Planet Trust, the conservation charity that owns Paignton Zoo.
Peter Salmon, Sales and Marketing Director of Bays Brewery, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Paignton Zoo once again for their centenary year. The ale can be purchased from our online shop and lots of Devon bars and pubs. Plus we’re offering this discount code PAIGNTONZOO which will give 15% off Wild100 and all other Bays beer and ciders on our website.”
