Paignton Zoo have just launched their own version of Monopoly: a fresh take on the classic board game to mark the zoo’s 100th birthday. But this isn’t just any version of Monopoly; Paignton Zoo have hidden a special meaning in the game…
As players move around the board, they’ll have the opportunity to obtain increasingly rare animals, from those that are classed as ‘least concern’ due to plentiful populations in the wild, through to those that are critically endangered. It even includes two extinct animals – the Socorro dove, which is extinct in the wild, and the passenger pigeon. The important message behind the game highlights the threats to our planet’s wildlife, which Paignton Zoo’s conservation charity Wild Planet Trust are addressing through their work to help halt species decline.
The game features lots of the zoo’s most popular animals and plants, including some familiar faces like the African lions and Bornean orangutans. The board game showcases the diversity of species at Paignton Zoo, and also highlights some of the lesser-known but wonderful animals they look after.
As Paignton Zoo are celebrating their centenary year, this board game is a great opportunity to support the zoo and also find out more about their conservation mission. Commercial Sales Growth Manager Lee-Ann Mugford said:
“We’re really excited to launch our very own version of Monopoly ahead of our 100th birthday in July. As a conservation charity, all of our profits go towards the work we do to look after nature in the UK and overseas, so this is great way to celebrate that. We hope people love the game as much as we do!”
