Zoo lemur enjoys winter sun
Published: 12th Feb 2016
Looking for some winter sun? Try Paignton Zoo, where lemurs have been seen sunbathing!
A lemur at Paignton Zoo has been photographed enjoying some winter sun. The ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) - familiar because of its black and white tail – was snapped by accomplished amateur photographer and Paignton Zoo regular Ray Wiltshire.
The ring-tailed lemur is highly social and is – like many lemur species - female dominant. The ring-tailed lemur sunbathes by sitting upright and pointing its underside, with its thinner white fur, towards the sun.
Like all lemurs it comes only from the island of Madagascar, living in forest and scrub in the south. It is omnivorous, active during the day and is the most terrestrial of lemurs.
