Paignton Zoo is home to a pair of northern hawk owls. They have hatched 2 chicks this spring – the first time the Zoo has bred the species.
Curator of Birds Jo Gregson said: “They are fascinating birds because they are not like other owls – they hunt in daylight using their keen eyesight. They are fast and manoeuvrable in open areas of forest.”
The species is thought to be declining in the wild.
