Luzon Bleeding Heart Dove

Habitat
This bird is only found in the wild in primary and secondary forests on the island of Luzon, Phillipines.
Wild Diet
It feeds on seeds, small fruits, berries & invertebrates found on the ground.
Behaviour
The reddish hue that extends down the belly gives the illusion of blood having run down the bird's breast - this is their unique marking!
Doves and pigeons drink water in a different way to most other birds. Rather than scoop up water with their bill and throw their head back to let the water run down their throats, they use their beaks like a straw to suck water up to drink.
Breeding
The dove is thought to form monogamous bonds. Two eggs will hatch after 2 to 3 weeks and chicks will fledge after 2 weeks.
