Habitat

Scrub, open land with trees and near water.

Wild Diet

Seeds, leaves, shoots of weeds and grasses.

Behaviour

They are sun loving and move in pairs or in small groups of about 20. They roost and nest in trees and feed and walk with a toddling action on the ground.

Breeding

They lay 2 eggs, which hatch after 12-13 days. The young can fly 11-12 days after hatching.

Conservation

During mating the male displays to the female by lifting his wings and mounting her, then dismounting and striking her head with his wings. This happens three times before they copulate.
