Common Shelduck

Habitat
Coasts and estuaries.
Wild Diet
Molluscs, particularly the estuarine snail Hydrobia, as well as on fish, fish eggs, insects and algae.
Behaviour
Shelducks are large goose-like ducks. Females are smaller than males and have white feathers between their eyes and bill. Pair bonds are strong and permanent. At breeding grounds pairs take up territories.
Breeding
The female lays 9 eggs in a burrow and incubates them for 28-30 days, while the male defends her.
