Animals
Our mission is to conserve species and habitats, and to inspire and empower people to help in the fight to protect wildlife.
At Paignton Zoo you will find over 2,500 animals spread across 80 acres of natural habitat.

See our majestic giraffes, ostriches, black rhinos and cheetahs in the Savannah. Visit the birds in the plains of the Desert House and definitely don't miss our tigers, lions, gibbons, gorillas and orang-utans swinging around in the wooded forest.
See pelicans, ducks, flamingos and cranes in the sanctuary of our Wetland; while many snakes, lizards and other amazing reptile species can be found in the humid and steamy Crocodile Swamp.
Our final habitat is our Primley zone, named after the home of the Zoo’s founder. In Primley you can discover our troop of baboons, giant tortoises, red pandas and owls as well as plants from many different countries.
Many of our animals are endangered and as one of the UK’s top zoos it is our mission to help preserve our global wildlife heritage and protect animals from extinction.
We’re part of a worldwide network of zoos and aquariums which cares for and breeds rare species thanks to visitors who help to fund this vital work. Animals like the Critically Endangered Sulawesi crested macaque, Western lowland gorilla and black rhino are here for a reason.
