As an 80 acre site, with a wealth of facilities we recommend that you allow 3-4 hours at the Zoo for your visit.
We ask that your coach driver delivers you to the Zoo's main entrance. All students should stay on the coach, or assemble to the side of the main entrance, ensuring that they are not blocking access for other visitors, whilst a member of your staff checks in at gate 5/pre-paid tickets with the exact number of students and staff also making sure to mention the number of special needs students needing a 1:1 ratio.
There is storage space for lunch boxes in cages outside the Education Centre. Groups wanting to eat their packed lunches indoors must pre-book. Please telephone the Education Centre on 01803 697510 for us to arrange time slots in the indoor picnic area or the restaurant.
Groups need to arrive punctually, ensuring that the children have used the toilets before attending a teaching session. Members of your staff are also required to supervise the class during the session.
The nearest toilets to the Education Centre are on the lower level next to Jungle Fun or in the Restaurant, we don't have any public toilets in the Education Centre.
It is helpful if students visit the gift shop in small supervised groups, rather than all at the same time. Please complete the attached gift shop form and return it to us or bring it with you on the day.
It is the responsibility of accompanying adults to ensure that students behave in a sensible manner. Teachers and other accompanying adults are admitted free or at a discounted rate on the understanding that they are responsible for the management and discipline of the group. Please be aware that the outdoor play areas need to be supervised by staff as the general public will also be using the equipment.
During the summer season (Easter to October) the Zoo has a qualified First Aider on site dedicated to supporting our visitors; they are normally situated in the First Aid Hut in the middle of the Zoo. In addition, and outside of this period, there are other qualified First Aiders on site, usually situated in the Jungle Fun play area. They can be contacted by telephoning reception on 01803 697500 (or 01803 697555 in an emergency).
We offer pre-session risk assessment visits for school staff members (a voucher is issued for up to 2 staff/pre-session visit). If you would like to see what we have to offer, please telephone our Education Department on 01803 697510 or complete a booking enquiry form.
