A visit to the Zoo can help bring all aspects of the curriculum to life in science, geography, English, maths, art design and IT. We are also pleased to offer residential courses for secondary school groups.

Teaching sessions
Our experienced educators offer teaching sessions on a variety of secondary topics for KS3, KS4, vocational and Post 16 students. We have a wealth of specimens available for students to handle and investigate, ideal for stimulating enthusiasm and interest in the living world.
Secondary topics offered
KS3 Classification - outlines the 5 vertebrate groups with special reference to species which may be seen in the Zoo.
KS3 Habitats and Adaptation - an overview of desert, savannah and tropical forest habitats, food chains and the adaptations some animals have in order to survive.
KS3 Endangered Animals - discusses the main threats and conservation measures for certain animals which may be seen in the Zoo.
KS3 Tropical Forests - a closer look at tropical forests of the world and the adaptations of some of the plants and animals which live there.
KS4 Conservation Role Of Zoos - a discussion on the threats to biodiversity and the role of zoos in conservation, by means of breeding programmes and field projects.
Vocational topics - e.g. marketing, customer care, business, jobs.

Organising your own day
If you choose to organise your trip yourself then we are able to offer you a choice of trails and worksheets and arrangements can be made to use the Discovery Centre.
