Welcome to Paignton Zoo

Residential courses

We offer residential courses for two levels: primary and post 16.

Primary
The Zoo is a wonderful, safe and stimulating place for a residential visit. Groups stay in a local hotel and have their own classroom base at the Zoo. We organise all the activities including teaching within the Zoo, trips in the surrounding area and accommodation.

Accommodation
The guest houses we use, which are all within walking distance of the Zoo, have been specially chosen for being child-friendly. They provide bed, breakfast and evening meals. A coach will collect your group each morning and take them to the Zoo.

The Education Centre
We liaise closely with teachers to tailor a programme best suited to your needs.
This includes workshop sessions on a variety of topics of your choice. These are led by our experienced educators in our themed classrooms which are full of exciting specimens for children to handle and investigate.
A classroom in the Zoo is available for you to use as a base during your stay. The programme can also include extra activities or excursions for you to enjoy the countryside and attractions in the local area.

Lunches in the Zoo
Lunches are provided by the Island Restaurant in the centre of the Zoo. The children have a choice of menu which should be made in advance (sample menus and booking forms will be sent to the school). On excursion days, packed lunches will be provided.

Evenings
The guest houses are within walking distance of beaches, parks and play areas. Torbay Leisure Centre is also nearby and many groups spend an evening there, with a swimming session in the large pool. The Zoo itself is closed in the evenings; however it is possible to arrange an evening session.

Extras
Some groups are happy to spend each day using the Zoo as a focus for their work. However, you may wish to choose to include an additional activity or excursion.
