A visit to the Zoo can help bring all aspects of the curriculum to life, and as well as offering day visits we are pleased to offer residential courses for primary students.

Day visits
Choose a workshop session or organise your own day. Our experienced educators offer interactive workshop sessions on a variety of topics. These take place in our themed classrooms which are full of exciting specimens for children to handle and investigate.

Key Stage One
Senses for survival - An interactive session looking at the 5 senses and how they help different animals to survive.
Baby animals - Find out how different animals have their babies and investigate some of the baby animals in the Zoo.
Colour and pattern - Take a closer look at the colours and patterns of some of the animals in the Zoo.
Fantastic forests - Take a trip to a tropical forest and find out who lives there.
Fur, feathers, skin and scales - An interactive session looking at the variety of life on earth.
Animals around the world - Take a trip around the world and meet some amazing animals on the way.
African animals - An interactive session looking at different African animals and where they live.
Asian animals - An interactive session looking at different Asian animals and where they live.

Key Stage Two
Colour and pattern - Take a close look at the colours and patterns of some of the animals in the Zoo and find out how these help them survive.
Habitats - Visit savannah, desert and tropical forest habitats and discover how the animals found there are adapted to survive.
Adaptation - A look at different animal adaptations and how these help them survive in a variety of habitats.
Teeth and eating - An interactive session looking at a variety of skulls and investigating Zoo food.
Fantastic forests - Visit tropical forests around the world and look at how the plants and animals found there are adapted to survive.
Fur, feathers, skin and scales - An interactive session looking at the variety of life on earth and how animals can be grouped.
Skeletons and movement - An interactive session looking at a variety of animals and how their skeletons help them move.
Zoo safari - Discover some of the animals you will find in the Zoo.
African animals - An interactive session looking at different African habitats and the animals which are found there.
Asian animals - An interactive session looking at different Asian habitats and the animals which are found there.
Endangered animals - Discover why some of the animals in the Zoo are threatened in the wild.
Zoos and conservation - A closer look at some of the animals in the Zoo that are threatened in the wild and how zoos are working to conserve them.



Maintaining the importance of Scientific Enquiry (Sc1)
We aim to create an atmosphere that invites children to make predictions, ask and answer questions and draw conclusions.

Organising your own day
If you choose to organise your trip yourself then we are able to offer you a choice of trails and worksheets and arrangements can be made to use the Discovery Centre.
