The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust (WWCT) is a registered charity, based in Devon, UK, which owns Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, together with two adjacent urban wildlife sites, Primley Park and Clennon Valley in Paignton; Living Coasts on Torquay’s harbourside, which opened in 2003; and Newquay Zoo which was purchased in 2003.
The WWCT owns the site of the National Nature Reserve at Slapton Ley which was purchased in 1923 and consists of 211 hectares of freshwater lakes and surrounding land, plus 10 hectares of additional grazing land. The reserve has a rich fauna and flora including several nationally threatened species. It is a valuable teaching resource and its day to day management is effected by the Field Studies Council (FSC) which runs an educational field centre nearby. Management policy is developed by collaboration of the WWCT with the FSC, South Hams District Council and Natural England.
