Welcome to Paignton Zoo

UK Conservation

The Zoo’s parent body the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust (WWCT) owns the Zoo grounds, Clennon Gorge Nature Reserve (accessed from within the Zoo grounds), Primley Park (a public open space in Paignton) and Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve (in South Devon). These sites are all managed as conservation areas for the protection of many rare and threatened species and habitats.

The Field Conservation and Research Department works closely with the wardens of these reserves to conduct research aimed at informing their management plans and promoting biodiversity.

In addition to managing the Trust’s reserves, Paignton Zoo is also involved in British species recovery programmes and other conservation research projects. All the Zoo’s conservation projects are conducted in line with the WWCT’s conservation strategy.
