The Arabuko-Sokoke forest (ASF) is the largest single block of indigenous coastal forest left in East Africa. It is the second most important forest for threatened bird species in Africa with six globally threatened species. There are fifty globally or nationally threatened plant species, four endemic butterflies and three globally threatened mammals. Of particular importance is the Aders’ duiker, found only in the ASF and one other site in Zanzibar.
This project aims to support the conservation of Aders’ duiker and the ASF through monitoring and research into this species and the habitat it is found within. Paignton Zoo has funded two surveys of Aders’ duiker by the Kenya Wildlife Service and has set up research projects for investigating the biology of this elusive species.
