Strapwort (Corrigiola litoralis) is a critically endangered plant which, within the UK, is only found at Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve. Research is being carried out at Slapton and at Paignton Zoo to identify the habitat requirements of this rare species so that reserve management plans can be established to protect the remaining population.
The plants at Slapton Ley are being monitored in their natural environment and an ex situ population, in the glass houses at Paignton Zoo, will be observed under various environmental conditions. Funding from the British Ecological Society will allow further field studies to take place on successful populations in Germany which will provide more information to develop effect management strategies for the species.
