Animals, plants, habitats & attractions
Paignton Zoo is home to thousands of amazing animals and plants all housed in 80 acres of natural habitat uniquely divided into six different habitat zones.
Majestic giraffes tower over ostriches, black rhinos and cheetahs in the savannah, while the rocky ravine and dry plains of the desert are home to parakeets, venomous lizards and a huge termite mound.
Our naturally wooded forest boasts an impressive range of animals including orang utans, tigers, lions, gibbons and gorillas. The wetland is a sanctuary for pelicans, ducks, flamingos and cranes; while poison dart frogs, green anacondas, boa constrictors and dwarf caiman can be found in the humid and steamy tropical forest. In Primley, a zone named after the home of the Zoo’s founder, you can discover our troop of baboons, giant tortoises, crocodiles and owls as well as plants from many different countries including the prehistoric ginkgo plant.
